Christopher Alexander, 35, broke into a home on East Eighth Street in Bethlehem, punched a woman in the face and stabbed her around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, NJ.com reports citing court records.

The victim had ended her relationship with Alexander earlier that day, the report says.

The woman sustained a “golf-ball sized bruise” on her face as well as a “gaping” stab wound toward the top of her left hand as a result of the attack, police said.

Alexander, of Newark, fled in a black Mercedes-Benz sedan while the victim was transported to St. Luke’s University Hospital in Fountain Hill for emergency treatment, the report says.

Police later tried to stop Alexander near Wind Creek Boulevard and Daly Avenue after seeing him cut off several cars at East Third Street and Hayes Street — however, he kept driving toward Route 78, authorities said.

At one point, Alexander side-swiped and caused minor damage to a Nissan as he ran red lights throughout the chase, authorities said.

Police were “forced to accelerate to speeds of 90 mph to maintain a visual on the vehicle” but ultimately ended the chase near Silvex Road and the Hellertown/Bethlehem I-78 interchange after reaching dangerous speeds, the report says.

State Police later attempted to stop the speeding Mercedes but ended the pursuit after reaching more than 130 mph, according to the report.

Alexander has been charged on a warrant with aggravated assault, burglary, eluding police and flight to avoid apprehension — all felonies — as well as simple assault, leaving an accident involving damage and several vehicle violations.

Anyone with information about Alexander’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Bethlehem Police Department’s tip line is 610-691-6660.
